What Materials Can Be Checked Out?
The Law Library collection is mainly a non-circulating collection. Below is a description
of what type of items the library owns, information as to whether or not it can be
checked out and the circulation periods:
-
Single-Volume Books: Single-volume books from the general shelves can be checked out for
28 days. Books that are part of a multi-volume set do not circulate outside of the library
except to Law faculty. Examples of non-circulating sets include: reporters, statutes,
multi-volume treatises and journals.
-
Reserve Material:
In addition to materials faculty place on reserve for student use in their classes,
the Reserve collection also contains current Nebraska Continuing Legal Education materials and formbooks for Nebraska. These items from this location circulate for 4 hours and cannot leave the library.
-
Study Aids: Study aids such as hornbooks and nutshells are available in the Lower Reading Room
and circulate outside the library for 3 days.
-
Videos and DVDs:
The Library's video and DVD collections contain a variety of law-related instructional and popular
titles. Videos and DVDs circulate outside of the library for 3 days.
Who May Check Out Materials from the Law Library?
All Creighton University students, faculty and staff may borrow materials from the Law Library
by presenting their Creighton ID cards.
Alumni of Creighton University, area
attorneys and their staff may apply for a guest card to check out Law Library materials.
Guest borrowing privileges expire 1 year from the date the guest card is issued and can be
renewed.
What Happens if an item is Overdue?
You will receive an overdue notice. If we have your email account address, this notice will come to you via email. Also, a block
will be placed on your library record and your borrowing privileges will be suspended at
all three Creighton University Libraries. If the item is not returned after you receive
the third notice, you will receive a bill for the item. You won't be able to check out
anything from any of the three Creighton Libraries until the bill is paid or the item is
returned. The Law Library does not assess overdue fines.
Can an item be Renewed?
Items may be renewed up to 3 times as
long as no one else is requesting the item. You may renew the item yourself through the
online catalog. You must have a personal PIN (personal identification number) to do a
self-renewal. Contact the Reference Desk at 280-5541 for information on self-renewals. You
may also renew an item by coming to the Circulation Desk. You also have the option of
renewing an item by phone if the item is not overdue. If the item is overdue you must
bring the item to the Circulation Desk for renewal.
